1. If you have to eat something that isn't the best for you, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes if we indulge in an unhealthy meal or beverage, we adopt the mentality that we've already messed up, so why not continue eating horribly. One bad meal isn't difficult to recover from, but a whole weekend of junk-food binging can really make you feel bad.
2. Plan ahead! I know, I know...easier said than done. Stock up on fresh fruit, lean snacks such as beef jerky, almonds and other nuts, sliced veggies and dips like hummus and peanut or almond butter, shakes, dried fruits or trail mixes, and protein bars.
3. Drink lots of water. If you do indulge in alcoholic beverages, make sure you drink at least one large glass of water per alcoholic drink. Remember that alcohol will dehydrate you, so stay hydrated!
4. Avoid the temptation to sit around and watch TV! Well, if the power goes out, you won't have that problem! Instead of laying around and munching on junk or the kids' bag of cheesy puffs, bust out a few Insanity moves! Seriously, though, why not have a family challenge? Who can do the most jumping jacks? Who can hold the Superman pose the longest? Not only can this be a fun activity to pass the time, but you will be teaching your children healthy habits as well. :)
Whatever you decide to do, be safe. One cheat meal won't wreck your diet, but a few days of eating garbage might. Plan ahead and take advantage of the down time if you can! Best of luck to everyone dealing with the weather conditions!
